CLIENT GOALS

The client needed seating for up to five adults, several places to set drinks or books, a clear color palette, and planters, utilizing a $200 budget and a three week turnaround.

What We Started With

We began by gathering anything already available that could help shape the project, starting with a wooden folding bench in great condition that offered a warm, classic look and became the style reference for the palette and materials. A wicker loveseat that had been stored in the basement needed a full cleaning and a protective finish before it could be used outdoors again. Several round planters and small flower boxes were cleared out and repurposed, with the larger planters serving as side tables once simple tabletops were added. We also pulled together sewing and painting supplies, since the client planned to make outdoor pillows, and talked through color choices, patterns and fabric options to help guide their shopping.

BEFORE

what we purchased

We used the two hundred dollar budget to purchase two outdoor area rugs, two candles, two yards of outdoor fabric, two wooden trays, one wooden crate, one outdoor chair, six herbs and flowering plants, three cans of Rust Oleum in Espresso and one clear lacquer spray.

Items purchased from:

Ocean State Job Lot, Aubuchon Hardware, Michael’s, Joanne Fabrics, Home Goods and Cataldo Farms. The disco planter is from Clean Cut Mosaics, NYC.

AND AFTER

The finished porch offers flexible seating, warm layered textures, a cohesive palette and small functional moments for reading, gathering and relaxing. Reused items blend seamlessly with new additions, creating a space that feels intentional and inviting without exceeding the modest budget.
